Rossi’s .357 Magnum small frame revolvers debuted in 1988, and enjoyed their first run for ten years. The offering was due to improved steel technology that gave a small frame strength enough to hold up under the magnum’s pressure. Here is a specimen from that first run. This is Rossi’s M971 revolver. Manufacturer was Amadeo Rossi, S.A., of Sao Leopoldo, Brazil. Importer was Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia. Construction is entirely steel metal, with Brazilian Walnut Grips. Type is traditional double and single action revolver with transfer bar safety mechanism. Barrel is one piece construction, 4 inch full lug with 1:16 Right Hand six groove rifling. Sights are barrel integral serrated blade ramp front, with solid serrated rib, and full length serrated base rear sight with white outline that is windage and elevation adjustable. Cylinder holds six rounds of .38 Special and .357 Remington Magnum ammunition interchangeably. Hammer is short serrated spur .400 Wide, with hammer nose type ignition. Trigger is .312 combat smooth faced. Note that this Interarms Rossi does not have a lock on its hammer. Double Action Trigger pull is smooth and consistent, with single action pull that measures 3 pounds with no felt creep. Hammer travels an additional 10 to 15 degrees on all six positions on double action after the cylinder times into place, with 35 degree travel on single action. Lateral play to the cylinder is moderate with the trigger relaxed, and minimal with the trigger fully depressed. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .008 inch. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, only a faint etchy line with little or no depth that traverses the width of the top strap. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Surface detractions on this M971 are minimal, only faint amounts of edge whitening, and faint amounts of scouring on the backstrap area of the evolver itself. We rate this Rossi as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It comes to us from a civilian collector in nearby Decatur County, Tennessee. From its F096000 range serial number, and from new revolvers we received 20 years ago, it was manufactured in 1993. Replacement pricing on this revolver is $400 or more in our area. We’re offering the M971 Rossi in the photos, however, for only $ 339.00.
