Here is a well maintained Heckler & Koch service pistol, the USP, chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson. This is what we old heads call a Variant III, right hand shooter with decocking lever. Action is traditional double action; that is, from a resting hammer position it can be fired by means of a long double action pull on the first shot, and subsequent shots by means of a 4 to 4 1/2 pound range single action short pull with a moderate amount of felt creep. The decocker serves the same purpose as a Variant I safety lever in that it works to safely return the hammer to resting position and ready for double action first shot firing. German date code on this pistol is AB, manufactured in 2001; and it served and protected our fellow citizens in North Carolina for most of the past decade. Surface detractions are only moderate, with holster contact whitening on the upper edges of the slide and moderate amounts of scouring on the right side of the contoured grip frame. We rate it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. The USP’s slide is machined from a single piece of steel, and houses the polygonal rifled 4 inch barrel and firing pin safety. Both slide release and decocking lever are extended for ease of operation. Frame is high impact polymer with checkered backstrap and true ambidextrous magazine release. The frame also houses a universal rail system that houses a picatinny adapter, as the photos show; and HK was the pioneer in this area as well. Sight system is drift adjustable three dot Tru-Dot Night Sights, with full strength luminosity from our darkroom inspection. Finish is matte blue. Extreme overall length is 7 5/8 inches; maximum height 5 1/4 inches from rear sight top to floorplate, and grip frame thickness is only 1.18 inches. Weight empty on this .45 USP is 29 ounces. This pistol comes with a total of one High Capacity, Ban Period 13 round factory HK magazine that is marked for Law Enforcment. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Replacement pricing on this pistol, current H&K product code 745001, is over $900 in our area.
