Many of the earlier Smith & Wesson Grips were serialized to match the parent revolver. If we assume that to be the case, this set’s 200,000 to 400,000 range number indicates a production year between 1961 and 1964. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Construction is American Walnut, with nickel plated factory brass logo medallions, and nickel plated steel screw and screw escutcheons. Checkering is machine cut with diamond pattern motif in the center, a pattern that was phased out in the late 1960s. This set of grips is for a Smith & Wesson J or Small Frame Revolver with a Round Butt Grip frame, Chief’s Special type revolver. Numbered models included 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 42, 50, 51; the 6 prefix stainless variants of those numbers; the model 60; model 63 later production round butt variants; the model 317s and the 3 prefix Air Lite variants of those models. These are period correct for 1940s through 1960s production revolvers. These will Not fit a Square Butt Model 36 revolver. They will Not fit a Model 10 because it is a K frame. They will not fit a model 581 because it is an L frame. They will not fit a Charter Undercover, will Not an RG10, will Not fit the nozzle of a 1934 Wooster Rubber Clyster Syringe Bulb. They will only fit Smith & Wesson J frame revolvers with a round butt grip frame. Surface detractions on this set are moderate, principally some wear on the lower areas and back strap portions, as the photo show. We rate them as Good, perhaps Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
