Few of us will ever own a Smith & Wesson model 651 revolver. Here is the 651’s updated descendant, the Taurus 941 Stainless. Forjas Taurus of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Importer is Taurus International of Miami. Type is small frame traditional single and double action rimfire revolver. Construction is entirely steel, with satin stainless one piece barrel, cylinder, yoke, rod, and external parts, with .300 smooth face hard chrome combat trigger and matching short serrated spur .355 hammer. Thumb latch is hard chrome as well. Barrel is 4 inch Full Lug 1:15 six groove right hand rifling, with integral serrated ramp front sight that has a red insert. Rear is removable matte blue steel, windage and elevation adjustable with white outline blade. Chambering is .22 Winchester Magnum caliber; and the cylinder is recessed rear face 8 round. Note that this Taurus has a cylinder yoke detent for added strength and stability. Grips are factory finger groove rubber compact type with stippled surface laterals and factory logo at the butt on both sides. Height is 5 inches from the grip butt to the top of the rear sight; overall length 8 1/2 inches; and 1.34 inch cylinder width. Weight empty is 28 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity mid cylinder. Firing mechanism is floating firing pin, with transfer bar safety mechanism. This Taurus is equipped with a hammer lock and two keys. This specimen comes to us from its exclusive consumer owner in South Carolina. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally contact buffing and streaking on the lower forward sides of the frame and right side of the barrel. We classify it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Double action trigger pull is tight, but smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels 10 degrees after the cylinder times on all 8 positions in double action. On single action, the hammer travels fully 30 degrees after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull gauges at a crisp 4 5/8 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed, but with the trigger fully depressed there is no lateral movement whatsoever. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, only a faint black line with no depth. We estimate this revolver was fired fewer than 100 times. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .009. This Taurus comes in its original box with protective paper, instruction manual, and keys for its hammer lock. From its DN88000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 2010. Replacement pricing on a Smith & Wesson 651, if a person can even find one, approaches $1000. This one sold new 5 years ago for $399. We’re offering it for only $ 339.00.
