A.H. Fox Sterlingworth EJECTORS, PHILLY, HIGH ORIGINAL CONDITION

Sterlingworth 12ga. guns are numerous on the market, most just good utility guns. Once in a while I find one worthy of special attention, and that is what we have here; a 1927 ejector gun with high factory condition, uncut wood, and no “excuses”. There are very few Sterlingworths out there with ejectors, and almost none with ejectors and high condition.

The 12 gauge, 30”, number 2 weight barrels retain 98% factory blue, clear, sharp, deeply stamped lettering, exc. bores factory choked SK/F (.006/.047), minimum barrel wall thickness 32 thousandths, 2 5/8” chambers, ribs tight and barrels ring true, barrels tight on breech face and hinge, one scuff on right barrel and 3 removed dents but otherwise no marks or pits, ejectors. The file marks are still evident on the breech end of the barrels.

The receiver retains 95% strong factory case color, sharp clear engraving and stampings, excellent screws, strong, properly timed ejectors, action tight on breech face with lever far right of center, double triggers, 98% original factory niter blue on the trigger guard.

The wood has been refinished at some point long ago and remains in excellent condition, checkering factory and clean, no splits, cracks, or repairs anywhere, uncut capped pistol grip stock with a LOP of 14 ¼” to the original butt plate, drop at heel 3”, drop at comb 1 ¾”, excellent wood to metal fit.

I have very talented local gunsmiths that can handle any alterations you may require at my dealer prices. Chokes altered for $60 a barrel, bend the stock and get approximately 2 5/8” drop at heel and 1 5/8 drop at comb for $140. The number 2 weight barrels can have the chambers lengthened to 2 3/4” or even 3” for $120. Number 2 weight barrels have sufficient wall thickness in the chamber area to allow for 3” chambers. I must point out that shooting 2 ¾” shells in 2 5/8” chambered AMERICAN GUNS poses no pressure problems and is actually the factory’s intentions. DO NOT PUT 3” SHELLS IN 2 5/8” CHAMBERED GUNS. Additionally, I would not shoot modern magnum 3” shells in a vintage double. There is no real advantage to do so. There are recipes for the reloader that will enable you to load 3” shells with a bigger payload and moderate pressures for those that choose to do so. Ask me about the chamber issues. And of course only “soft” non-toxic shot where required. No steel or other hard non-toxics.

I offer the above services for the guy that really likes the gun but may require alterations to suit his particular needs. Good gunsmiths are hard to find for the vintage doubles, and I have put mine through the tests already and they are the best. I also can guarantee fast turn around times because of my dealer relationship with them. THE GUN IS GREAT AND GOOD TO GO AS IS WITH NO FURTHER INVESTMENT.

I have more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty with this gun. I believe I am the only one to offer this valuable warranty. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE DOUBLES ON THIS WEBSITE. Just click on the line that says “see all items from this seller” and you will see many fine double shotguns. Thanks!
