Model 1842 Aston Cavalry Pistol Antique US Military: .54 Cal, military smoothbore. 8 ½” barrel, brass blade front sight. Overall length 14”. Lockplate markings: (US) H. Aston & Co./Middleton, Conn. – 1851/52 Date. Per Flayderman's Guide to Antique Firearms “Approx 6,000 pistols produced between 1851&1852 – RAREST of production dates”. All proofs intact and highly visible, proofs on wood & metal are crisp & clear (US Military markings). No cracks in wood, small, few compressions, (2) cartouches deep & highly legible. Strong, fully functional action (at half & full cock). Captive ramrod, denotes cavalry usage. Trigger still possesses virtually all fire bluing, including screws, well cared for pistol. Overall Exc to Exc“+” cond. Likely utilized during the early part of Civil War! RARE, truly a Collectors piece!
