I purchased this rifle on GunBroker.Com for $190. It was in very poor shape. I glued and clamped cracks in the stock though some still show. Stained and finished the stock in low gloss tung oil. Cleaned and blued all of the metal. Replaced the missing sear spring. Replaced the butt plate screws (not the original long screw though) holding the butt plate on.

The receiver is stamped No5 Mk5 1942. There is a letter "S" stamped into the forward part of the trigger guard in several spots and on the butt plate. There is a "2S2" on the stock band and a S2S on the trigger guard. The serial number, TE0024, is stamped on the side of the receiver and appears to have been added.

There is an importers stamp on the bottom of the foward barrell: TGI KNOX TN No5 303 BRITISH UK.

Of all the research I've done so far I can't tell if this gun is a copy or an original.

The bad: rear sight is stamped steel and missing the elevation latch and spring. The rear sight pin is missing the little cotter pin so I used a hair pin clip. The stock's reinforcing band was missing so I made one. As I mentioned before the butt plate screws are not original. The bolt appears to be the wrong one for a true MK5 (no hole drilled in the bolt handle). The gun cocks and releases but the bolt seems to get tight at the very end.

I have NOT fired this gun!
