This musket is the basic single shot .58 cal. rifled muzzleloader, iron buttplate, contoured hammer, single leaf sight, three barrel bands are secured by flat, two strap hooks on trigger guard and second band, ramrod has a flat head that appears too short and non typical, iron nose cap. Lock is marked "1864" behind the hammer, with the Eagle to the right and Springfield marking. Three bands each lightly marked "U" as seen in photos. Cartouche in wood on the left side indicates government inspection as seen in photos. Round barrel length 40in. The condition and the markings can be seen in the photos. The wood is also in exceptional condition with a few handling marks but no cracks. There are a few scratches in the wood that appear maybe cracks but are not. This piece is in as found estate condition without any dressing up. The metal near the nipple shows history of substantial use via the wear in that area. The mechanics are fully functional.
