This is a Model 1873 Octagon Barrel rifle in .22 short caliber, shipped August 30, 1889. There is light pitting on the receiver but a lot of original blue. The sideplates did not fare as well, and have no original finish with various scrapes and marks. The barrel is likewise lightly pitted with no finish, and there are slight vise marks near the receiver which would indicate barrel tampering. However, the barrel is proper vintage and the bore is reasonably good with no holes and bright. Butt stock is good with various wear marks but no splits or cracks. The fore stock has several splits, mostly toward fore end cap, but no missing wood. The rear sight is a rare longer than standard one and the elevator is correct but replaced (more finish). The dust cover is also replaced and has a new screw and dust cover stop. The gun is mechanically sound, including inner magazine tube.
