Since the 908 is one of the last men standing among Smith & Wesson metal frame revolvers; and since it is almost identical to the highly desirable 3913 Ladysmith, we found a small cache of these at a good price, and intend to stock them so long as pricing does not approach the definitive $500 mark. Concern over the trends in compact handguns are twofold with us. Plastic guns are far from traditional, and consumers are wary of Glocks and their clones, fine guns though they may be, because there are no manually operated safeties. Smith & Wesson 39 and 59 series pistols, of which the 908 is a representative, have always had three manual safeties: the main safety lever / decocker; the firing pin block that prevents the weapon from firing when it is dropped – even nose down from a plane on concrete, and the magazine safety that prevents the weapon from firing, even with a live round in the barrel and the safety off, so long as the magazine is removed.
