Winchester Model 21 Skeet 20ga. - IC/M CHOKES, FACTORY LETTER
The Winchester Model 21 in 20 bore has always been a popular shotgun for both the clay target sports and upland hunting. Made of superior steels and in a more modern era (from 1930 until the mid 1980's), the Model 21 is likely the strongest double shotgun ever produced world wide. The Skeet Grade was adorned with nicer wood than the Standard Grade or "field grade" guns, sporting a checkered but, skeet style beaver tail forearm and most were made with 26" barrels choked WS1/WS2. Finding one in high, factory original condition is becoming hard to do. Most that are offered for sale have been restored, re-wooded, or both. This fine little Model 21 Skeet, sn22126 is an untouched, factory original gun with nicely figured wood and most all of its original metal and wood finish intact. The FACTORY LETTER details the gun as originally being shipped in 1948 with 28" barrels choked WS1/WS2, then being returned in 1954 for the existing 26" IC/M barrels. It is very hard to find a Skeet Grade 20 gauge with field chokes, which are preferred for Sporting clays and upland hunting. An investment quality shotgun that will continue to increase in value as you enjoy its use, weighing 6lbs. 11oz. and balanced perfectly between the hands, it would be hard to find a more honest gun near this price.
The 26" barrels retain 98% factory blue, mirror bores, choked IC/M (.007/.012), internal bore diameter of .612 both barrels, minimum wall thickness of 31 thou right, 32 thou left, no dents, dings, or scratches, 2 3/4" chambers, tight ribs that ring like chimes, barrels tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, single bead, a great set of barrels for your grouse or quail hunting.
The receiver retains 96% factory blue, action tight with lever right of center, excellent screws, ejectors strong and timed, crisp single selective trigger breaking at 4.25lbs. right, 5.25lbs. left, trigger guard has about 85% factory blue, all in excellent mechanical order.
The wood retains most all of its factory finish with excellent original checkering, nice figure, superb wood to metal fit, 14" LOP to the checkered butt, 2 1/2" drop at heel, 1 9/16" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 10 days of purchase for around $180), no splits, cracks, or repairs, just the way you like to find them.
The 20 gauge Model 21 Skeet is a strikingly attractive double gun that can be shot with any modern load; no need to find the soft shooting kind we use in other vintage doubles. Just avoid the steel shot and other hard pellets like tungsten/iron or "HEVI SHOT". Winchester Super X for late season pheasants; NO PROBLEM. There is nothing delicate about these guns and that is why so many avid shooters choose Winchester's Finest!
