When Smith & Wesson introduced its very economical Sigma Series pistols in 1994, the similarities to a certain pistol invented in Austria and Produced in Georgia were obvious. They always sold well for us, enough so that we planted several hundred here in West Tennessee, mainly among civilians. The SW40V was the first refinement of the series Fs, with a better grip frame and stainless steel slide. Here is a civilian owned model SW40V that we sold new some 14 years ago, from its PAY serial number prefix. Manufacturer, of course, is Smith & Wesson. Construction is polymer frame and trigger assembly, with steel frame inserts and working parts. Slide and barrel are stainless steel. Type is striker fired double action only, with an 8 pound vicinity trigger pull. Barrel is 4 inch; sights are black polymer 3 dot type, stake on front and dovetailed combat rear. Magazine is period correct Law Enforcement issue, holds 14 rounds of .40 S&W caliber ammunition, 14 + 1 total capacity. Weight empty is 24 ounces. Surface detractions on this SW40V are minimal, only faint amounts of scouring and buffing to the grip frame area. We rate it as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent Condition, 85 to 90 percent by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to enable our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
