Ithaca Lewis Model Grade 3 – FACTORY 99% MINT GUN, THE BEST!

Every once in a while I come across a truly outstanding, STUNNING GUN. Ithaca Gun Co. had many talented employees who offered new and improved designs to their double shotguns over the years, and made a practice of naming newly improved models after the inventor. This gun is the Lewis Model (spanning the years of 1) Grade 3, sn92951, made in 1903. Engraved by master Edward Laytham, many would say it is some of the finest engraving of any of the early American artists. This untouched, factory original gun is in condition rarely seen; original wood finish and checkering, case color, and Damascus barrels all in 99% vivid condition. THERE HAS BEEN NO RESTORATION OF ANY KIND PERFORMED ON THIS GUN. IT IS SIMPLY A PRISTINE EXAMPLE OF A FINE, 107 YEAR OLD AMERICAN TREASURE.

The barrels are 30” chain Damascus with 99% plus vivid pattern, mirror bores, choked IM/IM (.031/.031), internal bore diameter factory .726/.728, minimum barrel wall thickness of 25 thousandths right, 26 thousandths left, no pits, dings, or mars, 2 ¾” chambers, ribs are tight and barrels ring true, extractors, barrels tight on face and hinge pin, just near perfect. IF YOU WANTED TO KNOW WHAT ITHACA DAMASCUS LOOKED LIKE IN 1903, THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE EXAMPLE.

The action retains 99% vivid case color, clear, sharp engraving, excellent screws, action tight on face with lever right of center, double triggers with crisp pulls, trigger guard is wonderfully engraved and retains 99% niter blue. The finishes on this gun are superb, representing American quality in the true heyday of the Classic American double. Just look at the case colors, the mirror polish, and the deep rich blue of the trigger guard.

The wood on the gun still retains 99% of the original factory finish. This is very rare, as almost every 100 old gun will have had finish added to the wood at some time in its life span. The checkering is like new, with virtually no wear. The wood to metal fit is superb, the LOP is 14 ¼” to the original butt plate, 2 ¾” drop at heel, 1 5/8” drop at comb for very shootable dimensions. You just don’t find this level of condition and it puts this gun in a class by itself.

This fine Ithaca weighs 7lbs. 3oz. and balances nicely ¼” ahead of the hinge pin. Ready to shoot modern ammo through its immaculate Damascus barrels, it is an investment quality firearm that is sure to appreciate as you enjoy its use. Paired with Polywad spreader loads, it can do service on upland birds and the clays field, and is choked for any of your long range shooting you may encounter hunting pheasants, sharptail, waterfowl, chukars, or turkey. If you are an Ithaca collector, or wish to have a representative showing of each of the American big 5, this is the gun for you to buy now.
