This is a Colt .25 ACP "Vest Pocket" pistol. Its based on a John Browning design, similar to the Browning and CZ vest pocket models which are about the same.

According to the Gun Traders Guide (17th Ed. 1994), The Colt Pocket Model 25 (M1908 design) is as follows:

"Caliber: 25 Automatic. 6 shot magazine 2 inch barrel. 4 and 1/2 inches overall. Weight 13 oz. Flat top front, square notch, rear sight in groove. Blued or nickel finish. Checkered hard rubber stocks on early models, checkered walnut on later type: special pearl stocks on some. Disconnector added in 1916 at pistol No. 141000. Made 1908 through 1941."

This firearm has a low serial number at 14XXX and is an early production model sometime obviously between 1908 and 1916. So its about 100 years old.

The Gun Traders Guide fixed the value of this gun at $350 in 1994. Sixteen years ago. This is 2010 and adjusting for inflation, this gun's a steal.

The finish on the gun is good, but it has a brown patina typical of just about every Colt I own that's in this age bracket. There is some blotching around the top of the slide and the sides of the frame. Again typical.

It has a grip safety, with patent markings indicating 1908 or thereabouts as the year it was manufactured or shortly thereafter is my best conclusion and that it definitely predates 1916 by over 100,000 units.

Sold "as is".

It comes with a blue and a nickel magazines, a pair of mother of pearl grips that appear to be dated to the age of the gun. The presentation case, cleaning rod, and what you see.

This gun is a find. The box suffered over time but it kept the gun safe, which is why they made boxes like this.
