This is a Colt Commercial 1911A1 Government Model manufactured before WWII and shipped in September 1946 after the war. It is called the prewar/postwar model. It has the correct plastic checkered grips, which Colt was using up after the war. The markings are all correct with a matching numbered slide to the frame. It is all correct according to Doug Sheldon's book on .38 Supers. It is rated at a conservative 98% original condition. The box is original and the correct pre/post war box in excellent condition. It comes with the original manual and "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet. The serial number range for prewar 38 Supers is from 1-37835, 1929-1946. The Colt factory letter states that it went to Barker, Rose, & Kimball Inc.; Elmira, New York in November of 1946. This a beautiful early 38 Super and a great investment.
