In 1986, Tennessee joined the rest of the country in allowing two full weeks of percussion rifle hunting, typically one week in November for buck only, then another week in December for either sex. During that first season, we sold over 700 units of CVA muzzleloaders alone out of our little store. Kept clean, the CVAs have always performed with the best Knights and Remingtons so long as the user kept a good supply of RWS red hot #11 caps. Here is one from 1988 that has indeed been kept clean, a C.V.A. Hawken .54 caliber that probably came in Kit Form. Barrel is traditional 28 inch Octagonal, 7/16 inch flats. The only non-traditional part of this Hawken is the replacement Thompson/Center fiber optic sights, fluorescent green windage an delevation adjustable rear with ramp-and-bead type fluorescent red front. Swivel studs are Michaels brass, and the ramrod is brown fiberglass but has a traditional appearance. The late owner of this rifle maintained his rifles very well, but he was not interested in bluing the barrel despite his expertise as an exacting and meticulous chemical engineer. Bore is perfectly clean, no pitting at all, and this rifle is Excellent mechanically. Apart from the splotchy cold blue on the barrel surfaces, we classify it as Excellent throughout, but photos should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement price on this rifle nowadays would exceed $300.00. We’re offering it, however, for only $ 219.95.
