LG2606 If the XX serial number prefix on this Carcano Carbine is a date code, then it is a reissued reconfigured sporterized rifle much like the ones we sold in the mail in the early 1960s for less than $10 apiece. XX, of course, is Italian date code for 1964. Chamber flat is marked Gardone V.T., possibly Beretta manufactured. Serial number is SG prefix, 200 range. We believe this was a World War I – WWII range production carbine that was refurbished and sold into the US some time in the 1950s, 1960s at the latest. Sights are sweated on pot metal commercial front with pinned-on blue steel block notch rear. Stock and forend piece are original Italian walnut, appear to be arsenal refinished with some residual scouring visible beneath the plain oil refinish. Metal is strong original blue but with extensive light scouring and moderate brown spotty toning, as the photos show. Bore is Very Good to Excellent with no visible pitting and strong rifling in the 17 inch barrel. Chamber and mechanism are bright, clean, and excellent. We rate this Carcano Carbine as Very Good refinish, seventy percent range by our estimate; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
