Whitney Kennedy rifle in .44-40 Winchester with 24” full octagon barrel, full length magazine and early S-shaped lever, it is in the D series of serial numbers, the barrel is marked “Whitneyville Armory, CT. Kennedy” and the upper receiver tang has 4 patent dates. What is extraordinary about this rifle is the condition, the wood, barrel, magazine tube and all furniture is original and in incredible condition, the bore is excellent too, the receiver (and only the receiver) has been re-blued to restore the rifle, it was not necessary to polish it but the bluing was damaged so the receiver was blued to match the otherwise exceptional condition of the rifle. This rifle is an antique; it was made in about 1884.
