This is a WWII Colt 1911A1, which was part of the Lend Lease program that sent guns to England. It is in 98% original condition with the ordnance wheel, GHD inspector mark (Guy H. Drewry), and the P proof stamps. It has the British Crown proofs on the barrel, slide & frame. The right side of the frame has "RELEASED BRITISH GOVT. 1952" and " NOT ENGLISH MADE" stamped on it when the British government released these back to the United States. This was manufactured in the later part of 1943, so it does not have the serial number stamped behind the firing pin stop. It is in .45 ACP caliber with a 5" barrel and parkerized finish. The magazine is Scovill manufactured, which was a sub-contractor of Colt. The barrel is stamped "COLT 45 AUTO", which is correct from SN# 710,000 to the end of production in 1945. This is an all correct British Lend Lease Colt WWII semiautomatic pistol. A super US Military Collectable and a great investment.
