This .30-06 model 70, manufactured in early 1957, is reportedly unfired. I cannot guarantee that, but from the metal work this appears to be true. Condition is 99+% metal and 96-97% wood. Virtually all of the wood finish is intact, with some 'safe scarring' from 50+ years of being moved around the safe. Checkering is excellent. There has never been a scope mounted and the screws appear untouched. The bolt shows evidence of being cycled but there is almost no primer set-back on the breach-face, what there is could be from test firing at the factory. There is no marring that would be consistent with use. The barrel is 24", standard elevator adjustable rear and hooded front bead sight.
A future grandfather purchased the rifle from a dealer, new in box, on December 28, 1960(invoice included). He bought the gun for a yet to be grandchild as part of his legacy. The gun was presented on his grandson's twenty-first birthday, about two months ago. Grand-dad hadn't seen the young man in many years and the grandson didn't have the nerve to tell him he didn't hunt or shoot. Grand-dad passed a couple of weeks ago and now the rifle is for sale.
