From the Sooner Lake Oklahoma area comes this moderately used, very classy, Parker-Hale model 81 Classic Rifle that was manufactured, by our estimate, during President Reagan’s late Second Term of Office. Nowhere is it marked Parker-Hale, mind you, but its serial number is 29700 range. Barrel marking is Midland Gun Co. Ltd. / Made in England forward of the rear sight slot, and Precision Sports Inc., Ithaca, NY behind the slot. Note the BNP British Proof marks on both barrel and receiver. Original blue finish and semi-gloss stock finish are strong throughout, but with a moderate amount of scouring on both metal and walnut. We rate this rifle as Very Good, since no more than 20 percent of its surfaces are affected by contact evidence by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Bolt operation whitening is only moderate, so we estimate that this rifle has been fired fewer than 100 times total in its entire career. Barrel length is 22 inches with hooded bead insert front sight and slot blank in the rear sight groove. It has the correct Weaver bases for any Weaver or Picatinny type scope rings. Action is 98 type with serrated safety lever beside the bolt cowl. Rifle will unload on safe. Caliber is .270 Winchester, and internal magazine capacity is 4 rounds, 4 + 1 total capacity. Note the very attractive Rams Head engraving pattern on the hinged anodized alloy floorplate. Stock is genuine English Walnut, Monte Carlo type with very pretty fiddleback patterns running the entire length. Sling is 1970s Spanish Leather Kassnar Military type mounted on the rifle’s original permanent swivels. This is the first Parker Hale we’ve had in a decade or so, and it is eminently serviceable, very attractive, and even collectable. We’re offering it for only $ 419.95.
