LG2557 From a local Madison County Tennessee estate comes this pristine Savage-Stevens model 311. Its T and J armorer markings are not applicable, because it is serialized and with walnut-stained hardwood press-checkered stock and forend. From its D364,000 range serial number, we estimate it was manufactured in 1973. Chambering is 3 inch and 2 3/4 inch interchangeably; and barrel is 30 inch Full and Modified choke tubes. Barrel and other parts bluing are strong throughout with no visible detractions, and the color casehardening to the receiver are just as good. The only detraction to the stock and forend is age yellowing to the buttplate spacer, and we consider this an asset. We classify this Stevens 311 double as Excellent, since no more than 50 percent of its surfaces show any wear. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice so that our distinguished shoppers can judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent; and we do not believe this shotgun has been fired more than 3-4 boxes of shells in its career. By way of specs, mechanism is box-lock breech lever, double trigger, and single-block extractor. Overall length is 46 3/4 inches with 13 1/2 inch length of pull from the face of the back, left-tube trigger to the end of the buttplate. Weight empty is 8 pounds 2.4 ounces, well balanced between the forend screw and back of the forend. These shotguns, of course, can only be replaced with their pale Turkish- and Russian-made imitations. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 459.95.
