Military: U.S. Rock Island 1903 .30-06 VG-Exc Refin
|
|
This is a very nice, quite rare Rock Island Arsenal 1903 U.S. Military Rifle with no re-import stamping anywhere. The wood is excellent, but I thas a nice glossy refinish that was probably performed after World War II. We estimate that the refinishing took place in the late 1950s or early 1960s during use as a drill rifle. Serial number is 3079xx. Barrel is marked S. A. 8-42, Springfield Armory August 1942, probably its reissue point. The lettering is sharp, only slightly dulled, and we believe the parkerized finish was put on during World War II. The only lettering apart from the barrel stamping and receiver stamping is the letter H on the flat of the bayonet lug. Note the cartouches remaining behind the trigger guard. Also note the old replacement sling swivel nut on the forward band. This rifle is Very Good to Excellent mechanically. Even though it is not conspicuous, the barrel appears to have no more than 15 percent light pitting and the bore aesthetics are definitely appealing. This is a clean rifle. There is extensive Brown patina, some of it lightly crusty, on the very back of the bolt handle. The parkerization, however, is Excellent in our opinion because 90 percent or more of it is intact. Sling is period appropriate. Own this very nice, slick US 1903 rifle in .30-06 for only $ 1080.00
