HG2871 The Model 3914 represents Smith & Wesson's crowning achievement in blue finish metal frame compact pistols that began in the 1960s with the Devel Custom modified variants of the Model 39 single stack 9mm. This is the lightweight alloy frame type, round serrated trigger guard 3914. The blue finish variant was produced in much, much fewer numbers than its more popular stainless 3913 sibling. The standard Product Code was 102914; this one’s Product Code, however, is 102929 and it is a special order variant and so marked. The only difference we can tell between this one and the 102914 is that this one has a fully ambidextrous safety, and two finger rest magazines, and probably came that way, where the standard production variant had, if we are not mistaken, a single safety/decocker on the left side of the frame, and came with one flat plate and one finger rest magazine. Slide is matte blue carbon finish with rear serrations; 3 dot anodized Novak Sights. Barrel is the highly accurate knurled muzzle 3 1/2 inch that always performed with superior accuracy. Type is traditional double action; long double action pull on the first shot from a resting hammer and then short single action pull on subsequent shots from a standing hammer position. This pistol incorporates three outstanding safety mechanisms: the firing pin block safety, a magazine safety, and the main decocking safety lever. Capacity is 8 + 1, and this specimen comes with both its original issue finger rest style magazines. Note that the magazine followers have no carbon deposits at all. We believe this specimen is unfired; it came through non-S&W distribution channels on a trade. It is in its original one piece blue box with its Nox paper, warranty card, warranty stations brochure, and 4506 photo instruction manual. Its VCR Serial number prefix it was manufactured in 1995 or 1996, one of the last ones produced from a brief run that lasted from 1989 until 1996.
