Not far from us is Fort Campbell, sitting on the Tennessee-Kentucky State Line. Some of our best pieces come from our sharp eyed traders in that area. Here is the first Colt New Service 1917 U.S. Army Revolver we’ve had in a few years, and it comes from one of those Fort Campbell traders. In this case, we were not able to go any further than that with its documentation. Manufacturer’s marking on the barrel reads in double lines Colts Pt. F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford CT USA / Pat’d Aug 5 1884, June 5 1900, July 4 1905. Frame number is 232000 range, but the number of record on the butt is 63000 range, 1918 Production. Lt. Col. J.M. Gilbert’s Inspection mark supports that, since Col. Gilbert served in 1917 and 1918. Left side of frame bears AA Augusta Arsenal markings, and United States Property under the barrel. Barrel’s left side is marked Colt D.A. .45, indicates chambering for .45 ACP Ammunition, and this revolver was designed for .45 Auto Rim ammunition, of .45 ACP using half moon or full moon clips. Surface detrations are moderate, even weakness to the bluing, but with majority bluing intact. We rate this 1917 as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore and cylinder chambers do not show any pitting. Timing and lockup are very tight, this revolver times correctly in both single and double action, times on full trigger depression. Cylinder exhibits no lateral play whasoever with the trigger fully depressed. We’re offering this attractive, still serviceable, eminently collectable Colt 1917 US Army revolver for only $ 859.00.
