Description: Advances in metallurgy that made this revolver possible began in earnest during the 1930s. It is the descendant of the Air Crewman series of ultra lightweight revolvers issued to our forces in limited quantities during World War II on an experimental basis, and then during the 1950s as the Smith & Wesson Airweight revolvers. In February of 1997, the .22 Airlite made its debut at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. This specimen is one of the current production variants, the 317-2, second engineering change with internal lock. Frame is magnum type J frame, lightweight alloy with Smith & Wesson Clear Cot protective covering. Barrel is two piece, alloy housing a 1 7/8 inch steel barrel proper. Cylinder is alloy as well, the same as the Air Crewman was. Hammer and trigger are Case Colored Metal-Injected-Molding, .312 smooth combat trigger and .240 short spur service hammer. Note the grooved trigger guard and lanyard groove on the backstap of the grip frame. These features add both lightness and strength. Weight empty is only 10.9 ounces, about 11 1/2 ounces fully loaded with 8 rounds of .22 LR ammunition. Grips are Smith & Wessons new attractive boot style grip with combat finger grooves. Action is traditional double and single action. Lest folk dismiss the .22 Long Rifle cartridge as anemic, the definitive 1986 FBI Report rates it as one of the most lethal of all calibers. That is certainly true with our favorite round, the Aguila Super Max that rates 1800 feet per second from rifles, and in the 1400 fps range for small handguns like this one. These 317's have been scarce all along, even before the 2008 elections. We've never ever received more than 4 at a time. We're offering the .22 Airlite in the photo or one of its identical mates for only $ 529.00. 2% discount, $ 527 freight paid to the lower 48, if payment is by USPS Money Order & not credit card. Now transferable to civilians in all jurisdictions of the United States of America. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
