This Smith & Wesson .38 M&P Hand Ejector served our allies during World War II, and it continued its service for almost four decades beyond that. According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, many of these solid old revolvers remained in service throughout President Reagan’s tenure, until about the time that the semi-autos took off. At some point, this one served in Alameda County, California; its FTR 53 marking on the side plate indicates either Brit or Aussie inspection marks. Its serial number is V724000 range, probably manufactured in 1944. The cylinder's serial number matches the frame's. It has undergone rebluing at some point in its career, and holster wear is extensive on top of that. Hammer is original factory GI, but replacement. Grips are GI walnut with extensive scouring and moderate amount of gap between grip and frame. Lanyard ring is replacement, but Government Issue. Finishwise, we rate this Victory specimen as only Good, Reblue, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Good mechanically as well. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, only etchy streaking on the outer surfaces. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all clean with no visible pitting. Cylinder times correctly in all six positions both single and double action. Lateral play to the cylinder is pronounced, 2mm total by our estimate with the trigger relaxed, and a bit less with the trigger fully depressed. We’re offering this solid old Victory, however, just like it sits for only $ 439.00. C&R Eligible. Not transferable to civilian non-dealers in Massachusetts.
