The gun was made about 1895 (serial #90xxx), and sometime after 1903 it was converted to .33 WCF. Because of the serial number being made before 1899, this qualifies as an antique and needs no FFL for transfer. It has since been refinished, and most of that job is fading as can be seen in the pictures. The stocks have been sanded and the fore stock has been glass bedded to accommodate the slimmer .33 barrel. A military type sling swivel has been inletted into the butt stock and a non-factory swivel added to the fore end cap. The magazine tube is virtually new. There are two small indentations on the underside of the barrel from an earlier, shorter magazine tube. The barrel was originally designed for the more scarce full length magazine, and that's what is obviously on it now. The mechanics are good, tight and the bore shows wear, but is free of rings and pits, with strong rifling. We have test fired the rifle and the casings are not warped or expanded, so it has a good chamber and proper head spacing. A Redfield receiver sight has been fit and a blank fills the rear sight dovetail. All in all, this is a sound using gun, ready for another 50 to 100 years or so!
