Here is by far the sexiest configuration of all Winchester 1892 copies, at least among the ones priced under $1,000 apiece. This is Rossi's 92 Octagonal Blue 20 inch Barrel fitted into a beautiful color casehardened receiver. Caliber is .45 Colt with 1:30 right hand twist rifling. Manufacturer is Amadeo Rossi of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Importer is Braztech of Miami. Both firms are Taurus affiliates. Import marks are on the tang, behind the hammer. This variant of the 92 Rossi sports dark stained Brazilian hardwood stock and forend, with a casehardened, authentic steel buttplate like its higher grade ancestors. Receiver and forend cap are also casehardened. Overall length is a correct 37 1/2 inches; and weight empty is a well balanced 7.5 pounds. This specimen is what we call a factory demo. It is in its factory box with instruction manual and factory registration card. This rifle served as a sales rep’s sample, or perhaps even as a showgirl at trade shows like the annual SHOT show in Las Vegas. From the absence of any lock in its hammer, and from its 5GS prefix serial number, we estimate it was manufactured in 2005, just before Rossi and Braztech began using Taurus’s internal hammer lock on their long guns. Box is factory labeled Factory Reconditioned and label reiterates Braztech’s service warranty. What this means is, if it has a mechanical problem Braztech will repair it, but they will not give a freebie refinish. Surface detractions on this specimen are minimal to moderate, principally small amounts of discoloration on the receiver’s case colored finish next to the forend. We still rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all smooth, bright, and clean. We do not believe it has been fired since it left the factory. An original 92 Winchester often commands pricing in the 5 figures.
