Offered is an Amazing 2.5 in Cannon from the Confederate General James Longstreet Estate. Lees old war horse “Old Pete.”
This Item Comes With a Letter of Authenticity and Provenance by
“The Union Drummer Boy” of Gettysburg, PA.
As part of the Provenance this Item was purchased at the Longstreet auction and formerly Owned by Mayor Stephen R. Reed of Harrisburg, PA. He actually made the purchase From the Longstreet Estate Auction many Years ago. Note: Longstreet’s Gloves (Gauntlets) sold for $64k.
The Iron Mortar cannon has a 2.5 bore a muzzle of about 5in and length of 15 in.
I attempted to take photos showing the manufacturer marks are ground off. This was a common practice toward the War’s end and shortly thereafter.
The Longstreet Estate identifies that this was manufactured in the vicinity of Nashville, Tenn. All this is referenced on the certificate as well as the purported historically accurate grey/blue frame. Included is the 1970’s style description plate used for the Cannon’s display.
Please note this is From the Lt. General James Longstreet Collection and supporting documents will be supplied as well as all appropriate contact information.
