Description: Here is a veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, a Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpiece, numbered Model 15, 3rd Engineering change, that has a problem, and we are including the solution. The slight bulge in the barrel is visible under the letters CTG stamping on the right side, and the SMI in Smith on its left side. A Squib load can happen with even Federal Match ammunition; that is where a cartridge case does not get properly charged during the loading or manufacturing process, and then when the round fires, there is not enough pressure to make the bullet leave the barrel. Then, when the next round follows behind that one, the best result is a bulge in the barrel, and the worst result, of course, is a blown barrel or frame. The squibbed area on this 15’s barrel extends above the ejector rod lug, so cutting the present barrel to 3 inch is probably not a good option. We just happened to have, however, an extra 4 inch barrel of roughly the same age, one that came to us from a retired Armorer’s collection, and one that had its sight built up to high partridge configuration. The original front sight ramp is still intact, and the high patridge can readily be milled back down. Finish on the 15 itself shows extensive freckling; back strap serrations have pronounced rust residue; and there is some residue on the sides of the .312 serrated face service trigger and matching hammer. Both those pieces show still strong casehardened finish; and apart from its problem, we rate this 15 as Good, Perhaps Very Good finishwise, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Grips are period correct late 1970s Sile Walnut and speedloader friendly. Other than its barrel, this 15 is Excellent mechanically. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels a full 10 to 15 degrees after the cylinder times into place on all six positions in double action. On single action, the hammer travels 25 degrees after the cylinder times on all six, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 7/8 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed, 1.5 mm by our estimate; and negligible with the trigger fully depressed. From its K990000 range serial number, this Smith & Wesson 15-3 was manufactured in 1970. We’re offering the complete set, revolver with both barrels, for only $ 269.00. $20 off if we keep the extra barrel. Note that we have a Model 14 Blue 6 inch Barrel listed on Guns America, too, our #XBSW14, search XBSW14 + Robertson and it’ll pop right up. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
