BURNSIDE CARBINE, CIVIL WAR
The Burnside was a .54-caliber breech loader. Many Union cavalry regiments are known to have used the Burnside during the Civil War. The units include the 1st Michigan, 3rd Indiana, 5th 6th 7th Ohio, 1st New Jersey, 3rd West Virginia, 3rd 14th, 18th Pennsylvania, and 2nd 12th 14th 16th Illinois. This Burnside carbine is better than most you will see. Very little roughness will be found on the metal from one end to the other. The bore is excellent and is very bright and shiny, with sharp rifling. Wood is solid with a repaired crack at the right side of the wrist. This one would be a good shooter with repro ammo. The markings on this carbine are correct, but difficult to see without magnification. I believe this to be an 1864 dated 4th model Burnside Carbine. I also believe this carbine to be 100% correct and all original. Serial # 2093 stamped on breech block and receiver.
