This holster came to us from one of our friends in Santa Clara County, California with an 1882 Smith & Wesson .38 DA Second Model Revolver. The revolver shows in the photo, but it IS NOT included, and it has a happy home in Madison County, Tennessee, with one of our best nostalgia loving customers. We date the holster a bit later, but in all likelihood manufactured prior to World War I. It was for the 6 inch variant of the Second Model, and its owner, perhaps the original one, has it plugged for a barrel stop with a V Nickel from the 1890s. During the period, Santa Clara County fruit production boomed so much in the area that the county billed itself as the Garden Spot of the Earth. This holster and its revolver doubtless saw action, hopefully preventive action, on weekends in the area, with hard workers flush with cash and liquor. Anyone could carry openly in California until that state's legislature passed anti-gun laws in 1969, in the context of a show of force from the Black Planthers. Surface detractions are only moderate. Note a pulled area in the stitching toward the muzzle where the nickel rests. This holster is well preserved however, and soft and pliable on all surfaces. We rate it as Good to Very Good, but photos should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It will fit most top break or even tip up revolvers from Pre-WWI, including a wide variety of Smith & Wessons, H&Rs, and Iver Johnsons. We’re offering it for only $ 50.00
