Most Smith & Wesson Revolvers manufactured after 1996 have Round Butt Grip Frames. Almost all the N Frame, Large Frame Revolvers manufactured prior to that date had square butt grip frames. If you aren’t sure which yours is, see the comparative photo we have included, and thanks to the firing line folks for that. Photos show representatives, one of which we had in stock at press time, of Hogue’s premiere Exotic Wood Combat Grips to fit any Smith & Wesson N-Frame Square Butt Grip Frame Revolver made before about 1995. Numbered models include 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 57, 58 and their numeral 6 prefix stainless variants. These are as close as most of us will ever get to owning a set of the Factory Combat grips that S&W manufactured in very limited quantities during the 1970s and 1980s.
