For sale I have a Colt Single Action Army 7 1/2" Cavalry model in .45 Colt. This revolver is in 98% original condition, and was shipped in a box of 12 along with 6 other boxes to West Point Academy in 1885 for issue to graduating cadets in the class of 1886. The best records that the National Museum of the U.S. Army could provide was that this gun was issued to Cadet Lieutenant John Joseph Pershing, Class of 1886. I have letters from Colt authenticating the dates of manufacture, original condition, sold to the US Government and shipped in December of 1884. Inspection was done by D.F. Clark the same month. We were able to confirm ownership by means of a letter from a living Pershing relative who had documentation of the gun from Colt and with the serial number documented in the possession of General Pershing. The relative also had documentation of another identical weapon purchased by John shortly after receiving this one for graduation. Please contact us with any question, or for purchase options. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY, PLEASE! Upon request by serious buyers, we can provide more in-depth evaluation of the gun or documentation. Serial number is 1132xx. Most of the documents shown here are photocopies of the originals, as I blotted out personal information at the request of the current owner and the Pershing relative. INTERESTING SIDE NOTE: Doug Turnbull has no record whatsoever of this firearm.
