Velocity from a 26 inch barrel is 1350 feet per second, payload weight is 1 1/8 ounces. Since #2 Steel shot are .15 caliber, and since there are approximately 140 pellets per shell, firing one of these at close range is somewhat similar to unleashing 3 boxes of .17 Mach 2 rimfire all in the same shot. The creation of steel loads, of course, was geared in the 1980s for environmental purposes, specifically so that ducks would not die from ingesting spent lead shot in their wetland habitats. Few of our local hunters really liked it when it became mandatory over 20 years ago. The few who did like it are expert marksmen anyway.
