Here is the rifle that has defined Accuracy and Excellent for rimfires, the classic Remington 541-S Custom Sporter. This variant was manufactured only from 1972 until 1983, and only 31,000 were ever manufactured. It is rarer, then, than the Green-Stocked Nylon 66. This specimen, the first we’ve had in a decade, bears a B D date code, manufactured in January of President Reagan’s Third Year in Office, 1983, and the final year of production. It comes to us from a collector in West Virginia who bought it new. Surface detractions are minimal, only a moderate amount of scouring on the left midsection of the DuPont RKW glossy finished Walnut Stock. Muzzle edge whitening is negligible; and bolt operation buffing is only moderate. From our knowledge of its exclusive owner, we estimate this 541-S has been fired fewer than 500 rounds. We rate it as Excellent, since less than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected by any contact evidence in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Walnut has excellent figuring, mostly parallel veining but with burly patterns on the rear buttstock area and on the right side center section, as the photos show. Specs are bolt action rimfire rifle; 24 inch tapered medium barrel that measures .624 outside diameter at the muzzle and .725 OSD at the forend, with 1:16 rate of twist; 6 lug factory fitted bolt; 5 round 77 type polymer magazine; floral pattern engraved blue steel receiver that is booth 3/8 inch grooved and drilled for #14 Weaver bases; 13 1/8 inch length of pull from the smooth faced adjustable trigger to the end of the simulated rosewood polymer buttplate; engraved matte blue steel trigger group housing; weight empty 5 pounds 8 ounces.
