This is a Pre-War Colt Shooting Master Revolver. It is in .38 Special caliber with a 6" barrel. The Shooting Master was the elite Pre-War Target revolver Colt built on it's large New Service frame. It was the 2nd most expensive gun Colt offered next to the Ace .22 Automatic pistol. It was even more expensive than the Colt 1911A1 National Match Pistol. This gun was manufactured in 1940, one of only 2500 ever produced. It has a hand honed action, checkered grip straps both front and rear, checkered trigger and hammer, and checkered ejector rod head. The grips are numbered to the gun and have one small ship at the heal of the right hand grip (see pictures). I am also offering some Pre-War Colt Ivory grips for a Shooting Master at an additional $650.00 and are not included in the price of this listing (see pictures). The gun is in excellent condition rated at 97% original blue. The under side of the barrel has one small pit and is shown in the pictures, but is very minor to the overall appearance of the gun. The original box is in very good condition and comes with an original 1939 price list, original screwdriver in it's envelope, and a Shooting suggestions pamphlet. It is getting very difficult to find these Pre-War Colts in their original boxes with paper work. This will make an excellent addition to any collection and a great investment.
