Description: From its original home in nearby Fayette County, Tennessee, comes this very attractive, fully traditional specimen of the .38 Chief’s Special Stainless, Numbered Model 60, 7th Engineering change. Product code was 102302, small J or .32 frame with round butt grip frame; stainless steel construction, including the Satin Stainless .240 serrated spur hammer and matching .340 smooth faced combat trigger. The -7 indicates heat treated frame, descendant Taurus and arch competitor Sturm Ruger was severely cutting into Smith & Wesson’s markets with their +P rated model 85 and the venerable SP-101. From its BKK serial number prefix, this 60 left the factory in Mid 1991. Sight is barrel integral 1/10 inch step serrated front and fixed notch rear. Grip panels are original issue checkered panel walnut J Round Magna type. Tyler T grip adapter is period correct T 1 with the company logo, Okla City 73114 visible on the left side. Weight empty is 25 ounces. Barrel, of course, is 1 7/8 inch, 5 shot cylinder capacity of .38 Special ammunition. Surface detractions are minimal on this piece, mainly faint surface buffing and edge scouring, with finish loss on the high points of the grip panels. We rate this 60 as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This 60 is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is negligible, only a faint etchy streak with no depth that traverses about half the width of the top strap. That fact, plus the minimal amount of carbon residue on the front cylinder face, and the exclusive civilian owner’s trade as a Memphis Area residential electricial, makes us estimate that this 60 has been fired fewer than 50 times. Hammer travels an additional 2 to 5 degrees on all five positions on a slow double action pull; and on single action, the hammer travels an additional 20 degrees on all five. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and single action trigger pull is a surprisingly crisp 2 1/2 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed there is no movement at all. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a tight .005 from the right side. This is, then, a very nice, well constructed Tompkins / Bush Sr. era model 60, one civilian owner. We’re offering it for only $ 519.00.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $15 lower 48; $40 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, USPS Priority, insured with Delivery Confirmation. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
