From its home domicile in Alcorn County, Mississippi comes this attractive specimen of North America’s best loved rifle, the Winchester Model of 1894. From its 2,730,000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1965, the seventh year of the Bonanza TV series, and tenth anniversary of Gunsmoke. Manufacturer was Winchester Olin of New Haven, CT, and barrel is marked – Winchester - / trademark / Made in USA / Model 94 – 30-30 Win. / Winchester Proof Steel. Construction is all steel metal parts, with stamped steel shell carrier. Forend and Buttstock are American Walnut, with a buttstock length of pull at 13 1/8 inches from the .312 rounded smooth face trigger to the end of the factory checkered surface steel butt plate. Barrel is 20 inch with 1:12 six groove right hand rifling. Sights are screw on serrated ramp front with dovetailed beaded blade, and traditional semi buckhorn rear that is step adjustable for elevation and screw drift adjustable for windage. Magazine tube is full length steel, and holds 6 .30-30 Winchester caliber cartridges, so 6 + 1 total capacity. Hammer is traditional .370 serrated spur. Safety mechanism is lever safety, so that the trigger will not operate without a firm hold on the lever. Receiver is drilled on the left side to accommodate a side scope mount. Finish is original blue steel barrel, magazine, and parts, with a cold reblue receiver, since Winchester 94 receivers are well known for not holding their original bluing. Walnut finish is semi gloss oil type. Surface detractions are moderate, principally the reblue to the receiver, and occasional streaking and scouring to the walnut finish. We rate this Winchester as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this rifle was actually fired fewer than 200 times. Replacement pricing is upwards of $500 on most any 1894 Winchester.
