AyA Model 453 12ga. –ENGLISH STOCK- 6LBS. 14OZ.
The AyA brand is a very well respected Spanish crafted shotgun with exceptional balance and mechanics. This particular gun was produced around 1970 and retains most of its original case color and is in excellent mechanical condition. I am more known for my vintage American double shotguns and am pleasantly surprised at how superior this gun is to many of the old American favorites. The trigger pulls are noticeably crisp and clean, and the ejectors throw the metal snap caps half way across the room, literally!
The barrels are rust blued and retain 99% finish, 30” length, choked IC/M (.010/.018). excellent bores, internal bore diameter factory at .728, minimum barrel wall thickness is 36 thousandths, no pits or scratches, no dents, 2 ¾” chambers, single brass front bead, ribs tight and barrels ring strong, all in excellent condition.
The action retains 65% original case colors, barrels are tight on breech face and hinge, engraving is classy and still clear and sharp, double triggers are exceptionally crisp, trigger guard retains 99% blue, mechanically excellent throughout.
The English style stock and splinter forend are in good condition with clean checkering, nice shooting dimensions with a LOP 15 3/8” to the end of a 1” pad (butt plate can be installed for $50 to make a 14 ½” LOP to plate), drop at heel is 2”, drop at comb 1 3/8”, good wood to metal fit. There is a sliver crack at the top tang that has been professionally repaired and is very hard to detect. This is a common place for little cracks.
This gun is very lightweight for a 12ga. with 30” barrels and balances nicely ½” ahead of the hinge pin. The gun would do excellent double duty afield or on the sporting clays course.
