Parker Single Barrel Trap A-1 SPECIAL—FANTASTIC GUN
I have owned this gun since 2001 when I bought it in Las Vegas. It is a unique Parker trap gun that letters as a “SC” Grade Trap, shipped by Remington in May of 1939 with a 30” barrel and full choke. It has subsequently been upgraded to an A-1 Special in the way of wood, gold lettering, and inlays. There are date codes on the water table that indicate it was returned in January of 1942 for service or upgrades. It was sold to me by an antique dealer in southern California, home of Pachmayr Gun Works. It is well known that Frank Pachmayr was the gunsmith to the “Stars” right there in Los Angeles, and he was famous for his fantastic wood work and gold inlays. The wood and gold on this gun is almost surely his work. The checkering and carvings are to perfection, and Parker or Pachmayr are amongst the few that could have done work to this level. The gold inlays are identical to those seen on other Pachmayr guns. Look in your Double Gun Journal, Volume 11, Issue 3, pg. 58/59. Of course there is no documentation, so it is up to others to decide. Please look closely at the photos and ask to see them all.
The barrel is 30” factory, one of only 169 Single Barrel Traps so made, choked Full or .036 constriction, 99% blue, double ivory beads, jeweled barrel flats and lug, mirror bore, 2 ¾” chamber, everything like new.
The receiver retains 98% case color that is still vivid and sure looks late “Remington” to me. The engraving pattern is standard SC Grade, with the exception of the gold “Parker” lettering on the bottom of the receiver, gold serial numbers, and the 3 gold inlays on the receiver. The water table is jeweled. The forend iron is jeweled as well. The gold inlays are done to perfection, and closely resemble the inlays I have seen on other Pachmayr upgrades. The trigger is crisp and the ejector is timed properly.
The wood is some of the nicest figured European walnut I have seen. Again, Frank Pachmayr was famous for his wood and stocking of fine rifles and shotguns. The flor-de-lis carvings, stipling, and 32LPI checkering is extremely well done and identical to a factory A-1 Special. I have seen many “reproduction” A-1’s and most are poor attempts to match the Parker originals. I can only attribute the quality of work to the factory or someone as esteemed as Pachmayr. You be the judge. The LOP is 14 5/16” to the end of a (you guessed it) Pachmayr solid rubber pad from a mid position trigger, 1 ¾” drop at heel, 1 7/16 drop at comb for great shooting dimensions. There are no cracks, splits, or repairs in the wood, checkering still clear, just GORGEOUS.
This is not a factory issue A-1 Special, but is a very special Parker SBT. To build and install this stock today would exceed the price I am asking for the gun. I have shot many rounds of trap with this gun and it is a true crusher right out to the 27 yard line. The attention I get at the club when this gun comes out is nothing short of extraordinary. There are more expensive trap guns out there, but none I have seen are as nicely engraved or wooded, and none will out shoot the Parker from a pure function stand point.
I have many photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty with this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. Just click on the line that says “see all items from this seller” and quite a list will pop up. Thanks for looking!
