From a St. Louis collection comes this very attractive Colt Government 1911A1 pistol. It is 100% factory Colt. Its 1705900 range serial number dates it to 1944. Trigger, hammer, Mainspring housing, and all parts that we can see are original GI configuration. The Slide, interestingly, reads on its right side, Colt’s Mfg. Co. Hartford CT U.S.A.; and on its left side, Government / Model Colt Automatic / Caliber .45 with the Rampant Colt Logo beside it. Proofmark letter P is positioned to the right side of the magazine release. Barrel link strut is marked P on its left side and HS on its right side. We do not detect any other markings anywhere on this pistol. Note the distinctive 1930s pattern to the mainspring housing. We believe this pistol was re-slided in the 1960s, perhaps even 1950s. Surface detractions are moderate. Frame has original milling marks around the trigger guard. Barrel has mill marks underneath, with some etchy external surface areas on its rear left side. The bore and chamber are excellent, they are not affected. Parkerizing shows weakness principally on the front strap of the grip frame. We rate this Government Colt as Very Good, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
