LOWER" marked saddle ring carbine in 25-35 WCF. J.P. Lower was one of the largest early western dealers, selling Winchesters, Colts and Sharps from his store in Denver, Colorado, the "SHOOTERS EMPORIUM". Starting in 1872 John Lower sold firearms and supplies to the buffalo hide hunters, ranchers, settlers and lawmen of the early west. Most of the guns he sold were stamped his brand, "JP LOWER, DENVER, COLO". This Winchester carbine was sold through his Shooters Emporium in 1910 and his stamp is on the upper right side of the receiver. This carbine is complete and in 60% overall condition. The bore is good but has light frosting, rate it a 6 on a 1 to 10 scale, strong rifling and will be a good shooter. The buttstock and forend are tight and sound but have many small dents and dings from years of hard use out west. No cracks, chips or extra holes in metal or wood. This carbine is a true piece of western history, and one that is seldom found for sale.
