Description: From mid 1983 comes this fully traditional S&W .357 Distinguished Combat Magnum Stainless, numbered model 686. Serial number prefix is ACL. It has no numbered model suffix; nor does it have the letter M suffix, so it did not undergo the firing pin or hammer nose bushing modification that Smith & Wesson initiated in the mid 1980s. It has a true K/L Square Butt Grip frame, serrated fore and aft; and satin stainless .360 smooth combat trigger and hammer nose type serrated spur .375 semi-target hammer, also satin stainless. Note the White Outline Adjustable Rear Sight is the square front type, so this 686 was never drilled. Grips are period correct factory Smith & Wesson Goncalo Alves Target with Speedloader recess on their left panel. Barrel, of course, is full lug stainless 6 inch. This is a civilian revolver, local one owner and probably bought new from us for its exclusive retail owner in neighboring McNairy County Tennessee. It came from a good but broken home; we bought it from the ex wife. Surface detractions are minimal, principally a small series of streaks on the center rib serrations of the barrel; and only faint holster contact buffing on the cylinder’s lateral surfaces and faint rotation marking. We rate this 686 / no suffix as Excellent, since we estimate that no more than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected by any kind of contact evidence. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal, a faint etchy streak that traverses most of the width of the top strap. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels an exceptional 15 degrees on all six positions after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the hammer travels fully 35 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is an exceptionally crisp and light 2 pounds with no felt creep. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect .006. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible, less than 1/2 mm total with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed there is no lateral movement whatsoever. From our inspection of this revolver, and from our knowledge of its exclusive owner family, it has been fired fewer than 300 rounds. This variant of the Distinguished Combat Magnum is the most desirable, given its retention of fully traditional configuration. We're offering it for only $ 569.00. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
