Here is one of Smith & Wesson's M&P 45 Compact Variants, product code 307708, that supersedes the Glock on contours, magazine construction, rail capability, and versatility. This M&P .45 weighs in at 26 ounces with empty magazine. It has triple bar rail capability, and forward slide serrations like its traditional Colt competitors. It comes with three interchangeable backstrap pieces for precise fitting to the shooter, and more sure-grip pebble surfaces on the grip frame and magazine heels. All three magazines are dark stainless steel bodied, 8 rounders, yielding 8 + 1 capacity and total of 25 rounds with all three loaded. Sights are Factory Trijicon Night Sights for a highly visible 3-dot sight picture day or night. The rail is 3-slot, not just to accommodate light equipment, but to allow the shooter flexibility and added security. This specimen appears to have an 8 pound double action only trigger pull. Barrel length is 4 inches; sight radius is 6 3/4 inches; and the pistol’s maximum height is 5 inches from the top of the slide to the end of the magazine's finger rest. The ambidextrous lever safety, internal firing pin block and trigger safety make this truly a Safe Action pistol. This variant of the M&P 45 C does not have a magazine safety and is marked, Caution: Capable of Firing with Magazine Removed. M&P series has a fully ambidextrous magazine release setup; it is as easy to switch sides on it as a Beretta 92. Note that these pistols may come in a blue factory case or a black one, box coloration is transitional from blue to black.
