These pistols are exact museum-quality replicas of those used by Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr during the most famous duel of all time which took place in 1804. Meticulously precise in every detail, they are indistinguishable from the originals; they are also .54 caliber muzzle-loading black-powder pistols that can be fired and are exempt from all Federal regulation. These pistols were hand-crafted and hand-engraved for the U.S. Historical Society in the renowned arms studio of Aldo Uberti of Italy. The original set used by Hamilton and Burr and owned by Chase-Manhattan Bank were completely dismantled in order to re-construct only 1200 sets of replica pistols. During the dismantling a hair-trigger mechanism was discovered, something kept secret for generations. The pistols are set in a fitted and lined solid American Cherry display and carrying case complete with a key. Consigner purchased the set in 1981 as a commemorative gift; the pistols have been removed from the case very few times but have never been fired- only test-fired at the maker's studio as mentioned in the accompanying literature. This set of pistols is an item of rare beauty and value-a true treasure.
