Commissioned in 2003 and completed in 2005 at a cost of approximately $20K, this elegant mountain rifle showcases walnut and engraving of the highest quality. Based on a much-refined Model 700 action fitted with a 24-inch PacNor match grade barrel (number 3 taper), detailing includes custom bottom metal, jeweled bolt body, recessed target crown and a carefully-tuned trigger. American Custom Gunmaker's Guild member Kent Bowerly crafted the stock from a Rigby-supplied exhibition grade English walnut blank in his classic style. Detailing includes 24 lines-per-inch wrap around checkering with fluer-de-lis accents, skeleton grip cap, ebony forend tip, inletted (Howell-type) sling swivel studs, cheekpiece with shadow line and a hand-rubbed oil finish. Bowerly also glass bedded the action according to instruction. The metal is equally if not more impressive, with Turnbull rust blue on the barreled action and color case hardening topped with French gray on the floorplate. Topping it all, Lisa Tomlin masterfully engraved the floorplate with the bust of a magnificent trophy ram surrounded with elegant scroll that continues over the trigger guard and surrounds an oval left blank for the new owner's initials. Topping it all off, "John Rigby & Co." and ".275 Rigby" were added in old English script. Weight is 8.2 pounds and length-of-pull is 13.75 inches. Photo package by request. Price firm.
