It is a very rare occasion when we get a used firearm of any kind and don't have to clean it. This one, however, belonged to one of our best old customers from Reagan, Tennessee; and he bought it new from us when Tennessee opened up its 2- to 3-week muzzleloader seasons in 1986 and 1987. It is a locally owned rifle, and it has been kept clean to a large extent. This rifle’s chief detractions are a small number of sparse pits in its bore. Less than 5 percent of the bore is affected, so accuracy will be good. Stock is genuine American Walnut, and barrels is classic 26 inch Thompson / Center Renegade round. Finish has minimal wear from use, two small streaks on the under side of the stock and minimal freckling around the nipple area. We rate it as excellent finishwise, since we estimate that 90 percent or more of the original finish is intact; photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Lock mechanism is excellent. The Black Mountain Magnum is only a slightly modified descendant of the Thompson/Center New Englander. From this one’s low 4000 range serial number, we estimate it was manufactured in the late 1990s. The series was discontinued in 2002. Manufacturer is Thompson / Center. Type is caplock percussion rifle. Finish is blue steel with engraved single trigger lock and hammer. Buttstock is satin finished American Walnut with plenty of pattern to the wood grain. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch factory black rubber recoil pad. Sights are windage and elevation adjustable with red fiber optic front sight insert and green fiber optic rear inserts, to make a red-and-green-dot configuration. Caliber, of course, is .50 with the versatile 1:48 right hand twist that is accurate with all forms of bullets, sabots, maxi-balls, or even patched round balls. These Black Mountains, sadly, are discontinued, and replacement pricing on a new Hawken is upwards of $700.00. We're offering this attractive, serviceable .50 Black Mountain Magnum for only $ 369.00.
