Photo shows a well maintained specimen of the rarest variant of the classic Smith & Wesson 3900 series Compact, the numbered model 3953 pistol. Factory product code 108502 represents Smith & Wesson's crowning achievement in Law Enforcement market metal frame compact pistols that began in the 1960s with the Devel Custom modified variants of the Model 39 single stack 9mm. This is the lightweight alloy frame type, round serrated trigger guard 3953. This specimen served and protected our fellow Americans the Chesapeake for two decades, on duty with the distinguished officers of the Prince George’s County Maryland Police Department. This Department has one of the best reputations in our entire industry for weapons maintenance and armorer competency. As far as specs, Frame construction is specially coated alloy. Slide is satin finished stainless with rear serrations, left side safety and decocking lever for right-handed shooters; 3 dot factory issue Night Sights. The Night Sights still retain about 30 percent of their original luminosity from our own darkroom inspection. Barrel is the highly accurate knurled muzzle 3 1/2 inch that always performed with superior accuracy. Type is full time double action; long smooth double action pull on every shot, the best configuration for accurate combat shooting. The hammer does not stand. This pistol does not have a magazine safety, but its long deliberate double action pull and firing pin safety were optimal in the estimation of the PGPD Professionals. Capacity is 8 + 1, and the included magazine has the finger rest butt plate. Note that the magazine followers have only moderate carbon residue; we estimate this pistol has been fired fewer than 1,000 rounds, no mileage at all for a metal frame S&W. Surface detractions are only moderate, with holster buffing and pecking here and there. We classify it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity finishwise. Photos of this exact pistol ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves, and the buyer will receive the pistol in the photos. Mechanical condition is excellent; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. PGPD’s Armorers kept up with the original box and papers, another attestation of that Department’s meticulous maintenance. Prince George’s County Government Asset Number plate is affixed to the box. Its TJB Serial number prefix and 1030 Julian Date Code special order marking identifies its manufacture date as January 30, 1991, first Year Production for Third Trigger Guard, the rounded face one.
